<idPurp>The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Sciences (NCCOS) continued its mission to provide scientific solutions for coral reef ecosystem management through mapping seafloor habitats in marine protected areas. Coordinating with the Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP), FKNMS, DRTO, and the state of Florida Coastal Mapping Program, NCCOS conducted a rapid seafloor mapping gap analysis and identified areas that have not been surveyed with modern multibeam sonars or airborne LiDAR. The FKNMS is currently reviewing regulatory and management boundaries in special management zones, while the DRTO had data gaps within the National Park Service (NPS) boundaries between the airborne LiDAR and multibeam coverage. These data gaps inhibited decision making with regards to conserving and managing the shallow and mesophotic coral habitats that support diverse fish communities within the Sanctuary and National Park boundaries. The NOAA Ship Nancy Foster was used to collect high-resolution multibeam seafloor bathymetry, backscatter reflectivity, watercolumn, fish acoustics, and benthic community observations (i.e., video and photographs) using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).
All data products produced are supplied as ready to use products for a Geographic Information System (GIS) and CARIS, projected in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) 17 N, North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) and vertically reduced to Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW).

The NOAA Ship Nancy Foster used a Kongsberg EM2040, EM710, and EK60 simultaneously during survey acquisition. The parameters for the EM2040 and the 710 were set to operate in Medium CW and Very Shallow mode respectively. Watercolumn data was logged with the EM2040 only, since there was some interference between the EK60 and the EM710 while the two units were being used simultaneously. The swath angles for both sonars were set to 64 degrees on starboard and port side, unless sea conditions or depth determined a narrower beam swath would improve coverage.  Preliminary cross line analysis was used to develop adaptive line plans in Hypack for all multibeam surveys.
