Service Description: Salinity maps of estuarine habitat have been developed for all estuaries in the Gulf of Mexico. Each map consists of five depth-averaged salinity zones (0-0.5, 0.5-5, 5-15, 15-25, >25 parts per thousand). Precipitation, flow-gage data, and monthly salinity averages were evaluated to determine which months would be used to represent the high, low, and transitional salinity periods. A contour modeling procedure was applied to the data to develop seasonal salinity zones for each estuary. Two salinity seasons, high and low, are displayed here.
