The purpose of this data is to support Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) benthic habitat map products and research planning efforts. We are providing improved seafloor mapping data products for areas of the FKNMS. They have been incorporated into the FKNMS Digital Atlas, an interactive dataviewer established in 2018 that features a number of mapping products, groundtruthing images and videos. The Sanctuary and partners have been using the dataviewer mapservice for planning, data visualization, and management plan development. |

The 2004 multibeam was collected in a much deeper area and with a different sensor and at a different resolution than the data from the North and South Tortugas Reserve. For better resolution and visualization of different benthic habitats in the PCA, this deeper layer was split from the North and South Reserve PCA. The Geotiff is the results of a principle components analysis using 8 derived complexity surfaces from the Multibeam Sonar. The surfaces include bathymetry mean, bathymetry standard deviation, curvature, curvature plan, curvature profile, rugosity, slope, and slope of slope The PCA Geotiff can used to delineate different benthic habitat types using a three band color scale.
