snippet: The FKNMS and NCCOS contracted the Undersea Vehicles Program out of University of North Carolina in Wilmington, NC to investigate the habitats found in depths deeper than 20 m in certain parts of the sanctuary. The ROV was piloted on many dives on banks in the Marquesas and the western edges of Tortugas Banks and Rileys Hump in the FKNMS. All of these regions have habitat features of interest that are too deep to dive on SCUBA. The SubAtlantic Mohawk 18 collected video images along transets of bottom features of interest identified from past multibeam seafloor surveys and identified habitat types along these features. The ROV collects georeferenced video and digital still photography.
