Description: We collected underwater video and photos at 243 GV and 273 AA sites between 7/28/2016 and 8/9/2016 in collaboration with staff from the local NOAA’s CNMI Field Office and CNMI Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality. We navigated to these sites via boat, kayak or by snorkeling (depending on the depth and accessibility of the site). At each site, we deployed two Go Pro HERO4 black cameras (one camera looked down, and the other obliquely) on an aluminum pole for sites <9 m deep and on a rope attached to a rotating camera system for sites >9 m deep. For both deployment techniques, the downward looking Go Pro camera was fixed at 1 meter above the seafloor to standardize the area being photographed on the seafloor (approximately 1 square meter). Once the cameras were deployed, we started recording our location using a Trimble GeoXH GPS receiver. The Trimble receiver captured the vessel’s position while the underwater camera recorded video of the seafloor. Each site was classified in real time.
