Description: Maritime limits and boundaries for the United States are measured from the official U.S. baseline, recognized as the low-water line along the coast as marked on the NOAA nautical charts in accordance with the articles of the Law of the Sea. The Office of Coast Survey depicts on its nautical charts the territorial sea (12 nautical miles), contiguous zone (24nm), and exclusive economic zone (200nm, plus maritime boundaries with adjacent/opposite countries).

Description: This tiled layer displays coral habitat data related to the Northeast Reserve in Puerto Rico. Only the habitats used in the hurricane coral reef assessment and triage effort in Puerto Rico in 2018 are shown. See the data link provided below to download the entire dataset.
NOAA, in coordination with partners Sea Ventures, Force Blue, and PR DNER, performed coral assessment and emergency triage under a mission assignment from FEMA. This engagement with FEMA is unprecedented, as it is the first time NOAA has received a mission assignment from FEMA for recovery support. Based on the assessments, recommended recovery actions have been suggested to the Territory for consideration in their recovery plan. These efforts resulted in approximately 10,000 corals reattached and saved. The data and images within the “Hurricane Coral Reef Assessment and Triage in Puerto Rico" website further describe these efforts.

Description: The MPA Inventory is a comprehensive catalog that provides detailed information for existing marine protected areas in the United States. The inventory provides geospatial boundary information (in polygon format) and classification attributes that seek to define the conservation objectives, protection level, governance and related management criteria for all sites in the database. The comprehensive inventory of federal, state and territorial MPA sites provides governments and stakeholders with access to information to make better decisions about the current and future use of place-based conservation. Data are updated annually and are available for download. Please see the MPA Inventory metadata for more details.

Description: A collection of sediment samples from the usSEABED database provided by the US Geologic Survey. These data were collected by a variety of core samples, grab samples, as well diver sampling. These data can be used to understand earth processess as well as provide information on the substrate composition, grain size distribution, and texture of the seafloor for habitat mapping.

Description: This shapefile denotes the location of underwater photos and videos taken in benthic habitats surrounding the US Caribbean Territories. The Ground Validation and Accuracy Assessment data contains GPS-positioned underwater photo/videos of selected benthic habitats that were used to enhance thematic maps created by the Biogeography Team. The observations from the videos are used to classify seafloor features and develop a benthic habitat map.The Accuracy Assessment data provided observations from the videos that are used to rate the amount of error in the polygons that delineate habitat features. The field work was conducted by NOAA together with NOAA contractors and local partners.
